G'day all, we purchased the Webber Baby Q about a month ago basically for the cararvan. This would have to be the easiest and most tasty way of BBQing EVER. Over the last month I have used it to cook just about everything including T-Bone, chops, pork ribs, snags and lamb roast and over the weekend whilst camping at Beuafort a Pork Rolled Shoulder, no caravan this time, was living out of the truck with Oztent.

It took around 1 3/4 hours to cook but this was down time around the fire, a chance of a Coleman shower and the smell wafting through the camp ( about 20 of us) had everybody walking over to see WHAT smelt so good.....I buy the prepacked vege trays from IGA, sprinkle some olive oil, add the seasoning and put them in with about 1/2 hour to go. Let the meat rest for 10 minutes, carve it up and you have the most amazing easy meal that everybody wanted a taste of.....

Have got 2 camp ovens, the gas Hillbilly camp oven ( mine don't work ) tried the Cobb BUT this little Webber wins hands down....

Give em a try...

Mate they arn't cheap, start at $299 for Baby Q, $499 for Q and $799 for family Q, considering I paid over $300 for the gas hillbilly that is useless, the Baby Q is a bargain....It will feed a family of 4 easily....

If I buy one of these can I do away with my webbera and BBQ when I go camping?

Although I have always wanted to have the webber on the trailer with a roast cooking in it for when we arrive at camp :)

I'm interested to hear how it cooks steak. The little gas BBQ I use for camping just doesn't get hot enough and you end up with a grey piece of meat. I complained to the manufacturer and they replied that that was as hot as they can get them. Great for cooking snags and the non stick surface cooks eggs brilliantly, but steak needs a good hot plate and it just doesn't cut the mustard.

G'day all, since the Baby Q Weber has been on board I have ditched.....

Gas BBQ
Gas Stove 2 Burner
Hillbilly Gas Camp Oven and a normal camp oven.

The Baby Q outcooks ( in my opinion) all of the above in much less time. As for steaks, I mainly eat T-Bones and porterhouse and over 20 odd years of BBQing have never been very sucessful at it. Enter the Q and we now eat steaks as good as any pub feed.....The book gives you guidelines but after experimenting I have found preheating on high for 10 minutes lid down, give the steak a good rub of olive oil, sea salt, bbq salt and a sprinkle of garlic. Place in Q, start timer for 3 minutes 30 seconds, turn once at timer and cook the same again.....Remove from Q and let rest for a couple of minutes.....PERFECT steak everytime ( times will vary according to how people like their steak but the above time would be just medium).

Lamb and Pork roasts are just as easy, put meat in and forget it, no need to turn, add the vege tray with about 20 minutes to go.....

I'm mystified, I just keep coming back to the lack of versatility of only having the baby Q. It only grills and roasts doesnt it?
I love the design tho...

You cook any meat you would on a BBQ in the Q with the lid closed, cooks in 1/2 the time and also all the fat and oil just drops into the aluminium tray underneath.....Don't use the bbq anymore, cooks roast quicker than the camp ovens and don't use the gas stove for the frypan where we cooked bacon & eggs...

Does anyone know how this thing compares against the Cobb Cooker.

We bought one of these in Tassie a couple of years ago. Have used it for everything from cooking to keeping the inside of the camper trailer warm at night in the mountains. Have cooked everything from steak, roast (meat and vegies), bacon & eggs and it handles everything well. Haven't tried baking a cake in it yet, but we're told that this can be easily done.

I haven't seen the Weber - interested to hear from anyone who has had experience with both.

Will let you know if we get one. A mate has a Cobb and I have not been overly impressed with it. It may just be how he uses it.

I have a weber 200 and just got a friend the 300 for xmas. I have a kettle also and apart from weber bieng a top brand and always great quality the gas q range are just awesome.

I think you could carry a small gas burner, like a hiking one for heating hot water for a cuppa and then a weber q for all your cooking...just need to chuck an alloy plate in for the stuff which needs a pan rather then a slotted grill.

But gas cosumption is bugger all, good size and great quality. Oh, easy to clean also.
